SNAP Benefits Updates : Here New Requirements for 2024
Changes Effective from July 1, 2024
Starting September 1, 2024, certain adjustments will impact SNAP beneficiaries, particularly Able-bodied adults without dependents (ABAWDs). Presently, ABAWDs are individuals aged between 18 and 49. However, from September 1, this age limit will increase to 50 for SNAP beneficiaries without children who are capable of working. Under these new requirements, ABAWDs may only collect SNAP benefits for a maximum of three months within a three-year period if they fail to meet work-related criteria.
Further Changes on October 1, 2024
A month later, on October 1, 2024, another requirement will be implemented, similar to the previous one but with a higher age threshold. ABAWDs will now need to be 52 years old to qualify for SNAP benefits if they do not have dependent children and are capable of working.
Anticipated Changes on October 1, 2024
Continuing the trend, another change is planned for October 1, 2024. On this date, SNAP beneficiaries who fall into the category of able to work without dependent children will be required to meet the work criteria until they reach 54 years of age.
Exceptions for States with High Unemployment Rates
While the new work requirements will be applicable in most cases, some states may have exceptions for receiving benefits based on high unemployment rates.
