To rank world universities, ARWU uses six objective indicators, such as the number of Nobel Prizes and Field Medals won by alumni and staff, the number of articles published in journals of nature and science, the number of highly cited researchers and articles indexed in Science Citation Index Expanded and Social Sciences Citation Index, and the performance per capita.
